Wianki is an annual midsummer music festival that takes place in and around the heart of Kraków, Poland. More recently it has become a celebration of International Music Day but its tradition comes from the pagan celebration of the Summer Solstice during which participants would wear floral head wreaths and release them to float down the Vistula river through the center of the city. I hoped to pay tribute to these customs as well as incorporating traditional iconography relating to the city of Kraków as well as polish culture at large. Still, as a representation of the joy and power of music, the festival is meant to call back to the colors and imagery of the Flower Power movement and the Summer of Love.
